Credit monitoring

ReadinessIQ vs Credit Karma: credit score vs mortgage readiness

One tracks your credit. The other tells you what to do with it.

"I have a 720 on Credit Karma. Can I buy a house?"

It's the wrong question — or at least, an incomplete one.

Credit Karma is excellent for monitoring your credit score and identifying issues on your reports.

But a mortgage isn't just credit. Lenders look at DTI, LTV, reserves, income history, and program-specific rules.

ReadinessIQ scores all of it — against real underwriting guidelines.

Here's how they compare.

ReadinessIQ answers

"How do I become the strongest buyer possible?"

When should you use each?

Both tools do something valuable. They just answer different questions at different stages of the journey.

Credit Karma

A great free tool for monitoring your credit score, tracking changes, and catching errors on your reports — a foundation any homebuyer should be using.

ReadinessIQ

Designed for the stage that comes before both — where most buyers need the most help but have the fewest tools.

The homebuyer's journey

Readiness is its own stage — and it belongs at the start.

Frequently asked

Is my Credit Karma score the same as my mortgage credit score?

Usually no. Credit Karma shows VantageScore from TransUnion and Equifax. Mortgage lenders use FICO 2, 4, and 5 — which can differ by 20–60 points. ReadinessIQ is built around mortgage-specific scoring.

Can Credit Karma tell me if I qualify for a mortgage?

It can hint based on your credit tier, but it doesn't factor in DTI, LTV, income history, or program-specific rules. ReadinessIQ does.

Does ReadinessIQ affect my credit?

No. ReadinessIQ does not pull your credit — no soft inquiry, no hard inquiry. We score you against real underwriting rules using the information you provide.

Can I still get pre-qualified by a lender later?

Absolutely. ReadinessIQ complements the lender process. When you're ready to make an offer, take your Readiness Passport to any lender for a formal pre-qualification.

Is a ReadinessIQ score the same as a loan approval?

No. A readiness score tells you how strong your file is against underwriting guidelines. A formal approval always comes from a licensed lender after they verify your documents and pull credit.
